![]() MICHAEL HILL PRODUCES EXCLUSIVE WINE LABELMichael Hill is well known as a jeweller, golfer and musician – but now he’s adding wine producer to the list. Currently hosting the Michael Hill NZ Open at his private golf course The Hills, near Arrowtown, he is also taking the opportunity to launch his own wine label. “Don’t ask me where I got the idea from,” he says. “ I’m always thinking and doodling and the inspiration came to use my doodles on a wine label and the whole thing went from there.” Mr Hill and the Mount Michael vineyard have collaborated to produce the first vintages of the The Hills pinot, noir, sauvignon blanc, rosé and pinot gris which are being promoted at the wine tent on Main Street at the NZ Open. Mr Hill’s personally designed labels feature distinctive caricatures. “I’m always doodling and drawing faces. Each wine features a different label and I’ll be doing new ones every year.” His daughter-in-law Monika Hill, who is responsible for The Hills design work, has “tweaked” the labels to give them the final professional touch. He is delighted with the outcome and the early response to the new product. “We have a nine litre bottle of pinot noir, which looks magnificent, for sale in the clubhouse and the other wines will be on sale throughout the Open. I will be happy to personally sign any of the bottles and plan to be at the wine tent from time to time over the next few days. In fact if anyone buys a case of our wine we will give them a copy of the “golfer doodle” which appears on the NZ Open programme.” “It’s all a bit of fun and the wine is something else that we can promote as being exclusive to The Hills.” FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: |
